Margarita?

Just a quick question for now. I will be sure to post soon about the life and happenings of Caleb. However, we all know that mommy Sarah has been craving a margarita this entire pregnancy, and I have to admit that now that I am NOT PREGNANT (YAY) I am really craving one. I am pumping my breast milk and feeding Caleb by bottle. However, I have been searching the internet, and I can not find any rules on breastfeeding and alcohol. Any breastfeeding momma's out there know how much milk you have to have stored before you can drink? I don't even want a huge amount just one frozen strawberry margarita before summers end. Please let me know if you have the answer :).

Let me start by admitting that I was the pregnant woman, raising her hand in the middle of our nursing class, asking if I could have a glass of wine and still breastfeed.

My husband turned seven shades of red...

My lactation consultant said go for it. Don't overdo it, by any means, but one margarita probably isn't going to do too much harm to your supply.

As a rule of thumb, if you can feel it, the baby can too. I would always have a glass of wine immediately after a nursing session (or pumping session), and be totally fine when my three hours was up and it was time to nurse/pump again.

I say: DO IT!!! And enjoy :D

Hi, I came across your blog from some of the other blogs that I look at. I also nursed my baby and I took a breastfeeding class. My instructor said that as long as you are ok to drive (as in-not drunk) then you can go home and nurse your baby. She said it is fine to go and have one margarita and then feed your baby. It is also very good if you start pumping after every feeding so that you will have some stored away for times when he stays with anyone else. This also increases your milk supply because your breasts are completely drained of all milk.

Hope that was some help!
